Karmaloop Re-opening

Posted in Stores with tags , , , on June 17, 2008 by hancho

If you weren’t there you wish you were: Karmaloop threw down last Friday night in Boston to celebrate the re-opening of their store on Newbury Street. It was a phenomenal night that started at 9:00pm and ended at 2:00am at there secret venue that was disclosed inside a fortune cookie. I have to admit, it was a pretty good idea – there was catered food, an open bar and awesome entertainment from Karmaloop’s own DJ Red Foxx, Kid Cudi, and special guest Facelift. The after party pop’d off at 2:00 and didn’t end till 6:00am.

The new store features a unique blend of modern, victorian and gothic design – definitely not your average “streetwear” store. The store still carries all the same brands, with revamped surroundings.

The British retailer Topshop, founded in the 1960’s, is set to open their flagship NYC store this fall at 478 Broadway in SoHo, with two more to follow.

With over 300 stores worldwide in 30 countries, including the largest fashion store in the world (located at Oxford Circus), Topshop should meet the same success at its Manhattan locations. Philip Green, the owner of Topshop, is said to be planning an investment of over $100 million for the three Manhattan locations. For more information, click here.

This weekend (June 14-15), over 200 artists will gather at the McCarren Park Pool from 11am to 7pm for Brooklyn’s 4th Annual RENEGADE CRAFT FAIR. Not your grandma’s craft fair – you’ll find anything ranging from comic books and silkscreened posters to reconstructed clothing and handmade jewelry.

If you happen to be in the area (which I seem to be saying a lot lately..) definitely check it out.

If not, there are other events in Chicago and San Francisco throughout the year. More info here.

The Restaurant serves “American-inspired” food which is based on locally available ingredients, and is headed by Michael Leviton, of Newton’s Lumiere restaurant.

The Boutique carries 35 brands (Surface to Air, JOHAN by J. Lindeberg, Rogues Gallery, Bing Bang, Flippa K, Maharishi…), eco-friendly denim, and is introducing its first in-house collection in Fall ‘08. The new collection will use completely organic bamboo and water-based inks so we’re pretty excited about this collection.
